The action area
The action area concerned by the LIFE ArdennEislek project covers 47 Natura 2000 sites within a 5 km buffer zone, i.e. an area of just over 338,000 ha. In Wallonia, 29 N2000 sites in the Ardennes are involved (220,000 ha). In the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, 18 N2000 sites (116,000 ha) are located in the north of the country, in the Eislek.
These sites are divided into eight distinct sub-zones:
- The tributary basins of the Amblève (BE)
- The Our basin (BE)
- The two Ourthe and Wiltz basins (BE)
- The Ardennes plateau of Wincrange and Troisvierges (LU)
- The Our catchment area (LU)
- The Wiltz, Clerve and Moyenne Sûre catchment area (LU)
- The Ardennes valleys tributary to the Gutland streams (LU)
- The hydrological basin tributary of the Haute-Sûre (LU)
Together, these sites form a coherent biological network that focuses on major issues for the conservation of natural habitats and species targeted. This zone also ensures spatial continuity between the sites, particularly between the Ourthe, Wiltz and Sûre rivers, thanks to the cross-border aspect of the project.
